How it works
What's inside a CPAP machine
A CPAP machine has three main parts: a motor that draws in and pressurises room air, a hose that carries that air to you, and a mask that delivers it. The steady, pressurised airflow keeps the airway open overnight, which is the basic mechanism behind CPAP therapy for obstructive sleep apnea.
Motor
Draws in air and pressurises it to the level your prescription specifies.
Hose
Carries the pressurised air from the motor to the mask.
Mask
Delivers the air to you — nasal, full-face or nasal pillow, depending on how you breathe.
