Travelling with a CPAP Machine
Practical tips for travelling with a CPAP machine — packing, power, and keeping therapy consistent away from home.
Read at your pace. Use this guide to form questions, not as a substitute for professional medical advice.

Travel is one of the most common reasons people skip CPAP nights — a bit of planning makes it much easier to stay consistent, which matters more than it might seem (see should I use CPAP every night).
Packing
- Carry your CPAP machine as hand luggage where possible, rather than checked baggage, to avoid damage or loss.
- Pack your prescription details or a note about your therapy, useful if you need replacement supplies while away.
- Bring a spare filter and mask cushion if you have one — useful if something wears out or is damaged mid-trip.
Power
- If travelling internationally, check whether you need a plug adapter and whether your machine (and any humidifier) is rated for the local voltage.
- If you're travelling somewhere with an unreliable power supply, the same backup-power considerations that apply at home are worth thinking about — see our guides on CPAP backup power and choosing a UPS.
Humidifier and water
Many people travel without the humidifier chamber filled, or skip humidification for short trips, to simplify packing — if dryness bothers you without it, that's worth weighing against the convenience.
At your destination
- Give yourself a few minutes to set the machine up properly rather than rushing it at bedtime the first night.
- If you're somewhere with a different water source and normally use distilled water in your humidifier, plan ahead for that if possible.
If you're considering a smaller machine for travel
Some CPAP machines are more compact and lighter than others. If travel is a regular part of your life and portability matters to you, mention that to the CPAP Pakistan team when asking about CPAP machines — they can advise on what's currently available.
